Oxfam VS Wateraid

Oxfam is a charity that operates in over 90 countries, who may be struggling with poverty or disasters. Oxfam aims to impose lasting resolutions on communities such as education and water. to help achieve these long-lasting impacts Oxfam rely on donations from the public to help and support. to gain the public support they often create TV adverts to attract an audience and bring awareness. In the adverts often no longer then two minutes Oxfam will often take an emotive approach to try and emotionally involve the audience. the adverts are normally very sad and show children in very deprived conditions with often no education and lack of clean water. they show these horrible conditions to try and gain donations from the public as they will sorry for the children in the deprived areas. to enhance the emotion and play on the heartstrings, even more, they will often include slow and sad music to show it is sad how they are living and make us the viewers feel we must help them.
They will often use close up shots of the children as the audience is more likely to feel sorry for a child in poverty than an adult.

In many of Oxfam's adverts the narrator will directly refer to the audience and use the worlds 'you' and 'we', by directly referring to the audience they may feel more likely to donate as they feel you are personally asking them and may feel if they did not donate they would be a bad person. it is rather manipulating as directly talking to the audience makes them feel they are personally responsible.

Wateraid is a global charity that was set up to improve global sanitation and reduce the areas, living without access to clean water. in comparison to the Oxfam adverts, WaterAid takes a way more positive and happy approach. rather than focusing on the negatives and showing poverty they like to focus on the difference they have already made and show areas that they have successfully helped. in their adverts, there is joyful upbeat music and the people shown are often very happy and smiling. by showing the impacts they are having in areas and what they can do this massively gains public support and donations as they like to see they help that has been done and they want to feel apart of this they want to say they helped achieve this and bring a smile to these people's faces. they also feel they should donate as they want to see more deprived areas this happy and help them. compared to Oxfam they like to show the effects they have already had and how they already impacted certain areas and hope that the public wants to support them and donate to help other areas.
