music video analysis
1.Robin Thicke- Blurred Lines
robin Thicke's music video blurred lines is easily one of the most controversial music videos ever released and was even banned from youtube all together for a short period of time when released in 2013 for violating the sites rules on nudity. it has been argued that the video promotes date rape and promotes a worrying attitude towards sex and content. the video features three topless women who parade around Robin Thicke who is fully clothed. it has been argued that the video is not at all offensive as all the girls were willing to take place and the female director was even the one who had this idea of using nude women. this video can be seen to degrade women as they are repetitively touched by the men in the video and they even pull the model's hair, the women also stare down the camera in a way that can be described as provocative however the director argues this shows the women's confidence and power. this video overall is very sexist as I feel it objectifies women and encourages men to treat women in a certain way. it also shows men as all-powerful and to have higher status than women, the video encourages men's dominance over women and show women as being controlled. the women in this video do not seem to be doing what they want with there bodies it is the way they are being told to act or how they have to act to impress mean, it is not of their choice which makes this video very demoralising and a negative portrayal of women.
