'Dangerous gaming': is the WHO right to class excessive video game play as a health disorder?
In A 2015 article produced by the BBC, they suggest there is evidence to like video games with an increase in violence and aggression. the media often accuse video games as being effective on peoples behaviour and teaching them things that are not acceptable in society, such as violence and aggression which is very obvious in games such of call of duty. The playing of violent video games is often cited as a factor in motivating shockingly violent youth crimes such as high school shootings in the US.
One of the students who carried out the Columbine High School massacre in 1999 used a gun he called "Arlene" - allegedly after a character in a novel inspired by the computer game Doom. However many argue to blame video games for such incident is totally unfair as this is just one case and in most cases video games and violence are totally unrelated as many people who play violent video games such as Call of Duty do not use violence or show aggression the real life, as they know this is a fiction game.
video games can often be very controversial and parents are often reluctant to let their children play violent games as for years it has been speculated that they lead to more violent outbreaks however this is simply untrue video games have no relation or impact on violent outbreaks. parents who are worried video games may affect their child's behaviour need to consider the violence they are seeing all around them in society and on the news, children will always be exposed to the truth about violence and to blame video games for children outbreaks is simply ridiculous.
In a similar article written by the mirror, they talk about research conducted y a group of Germany researchers have they scanned the brain they found They found that long-term gamers had exactly the same neural responses to a set of emotionally provocative images as non-gamers did. Each participant asked how they would feel in the situations presented in the emotionally-charged photographs. As they answered, their brains were scanned by the fMRI machine and compared with the same answers from non-gamers.
Overall i personally do not feel gaming has huge influence on the increase in violence as there are no scientific statistics to like video games to an increase in violence as well as this video games do have age restrictions therefore if playing a violent game there will usually be an age restriction therefore at this age a person should be able to understand that it is fiction and how to properly act in society. games are given appropriate age restrictions so effects such as violence do not occur.
