cyber-bullying
Cyber-bullying in UK schools has increased by 40% in just 12 months and teachers admit they have NO IDEA how to deal with it!
In modern times with growing social media platforms being so huge for teens and all of us to communicate it is no wonder there is a growing amount of cyber-bullying. although social platforms can be a great way for friends to positively interact it can also be a platform for anonymous bullying to happen and makes it easy for nasty comment and abuse to be sent online without knowing who is ending it. despite social media ability to connect us with one another and bring people closer it is a huge issue the amount of bullying it enables to take place which in some cases can lead to horrific outcomes, as it has perilously been reported many teens who experience or are a victim to cyber-bullying resort to taking their own life's when it becomes increasingly severe.
It is hugely important that teachers within schools are able to recognize the signs of cyberbullying and know how to deal with the issue to support the child, however in an article produced by the daily mirror they claim when talking to teachers they admitted they were still ignorant to spotting it. the number of reported incidents in the last twelve months jumped by 37 percent, as students are believed to be setting up fake social media accounts to abuse and message other students.
In recent years there has been a strong link between teenage suicides and cyber-bullying. Recent statistic show victims of bullying are seven to nine times more likely to consider suicide. studies in the UK show over half of the suicides among young people are somehow related to bullying.
In my opinion I feel social media is way to allowing and therefore makes it very easy for people to be targeted online anonymously which is not only very upsetting it can be very dangerous as we have seen in previous cases, online bullying can take a huge toll on a person and cause a lot of suffering not only online but in day to day life as well. i feel schools do understand the importance and severity of cyber-bullying as itis mainly where bullying will occur these days however I do not feel teachers are well enough trained to spot the sings and provided support needed for students that may experience cyberbullying who may not think they are able to come forward about it because of fear for what it may lead too.
