n Drakes most recent music video Gods plan we witness him doing a number of charitable things to help a community such as donating to local schools, paying students college fees, buying locals shopping and donating money to families who need it. on first look this video is wonderful as he is using is power to help the less fortunate and bringing awareness. it shows a theme of charitability and giving/helping others however this may not be the aim and the true reason for the video.
I feel the video is very effective in what it is trying to do as it shows Drake as generous and caring. it is great in highlighting issues of those that are less fortunate. the prefered reading of the video could be that he is simply out of the kindness of his heart helping the community and giving to others in a completely selfless way however the oppositional reading would be he is being generous and filming himself giving to convince the public he is kind and helpful and to boost his own popularity and fame. I feel generosity should be sincere however I feel this video makes it into entertainment and suggests it can be entertaining rather than the normal thing to do to help others.
I do not agree with the idea of the video and do believe it is a selfless act, I believe if someone was charitable and passionate about helping others they would not feel it to gain credit for it or seek to be recognised for what they have done. if drake genuinely wanted to help he would have done it in private and would not have wanted to bring attention to himself. the video was used to boast drakes popularity as showing him as a loving person who was down to earth, therefore, he may be more relatable to his followers. although drake did give to schools and gave money none of his help was long lasting and would only benefit a few people or for a short amount of time although this is generous if he truly wanted to help the community he would have helped them in a more long-lasting way that would benefit everyone. I feel he may be exploiting the people in the video and using them to improve his own public relations.
Throughout the video many close up shots were used when the people were receiving the gifts from Drake, this helped to make it more emotive and enhance the emotions shown, by doing this it engaged the views to feel more emotional along with those in the video. often in the video when drake is addressing the people he is talking to or an audience he is often a higher platform then them this may suggest that he is goodly as he is looking down on them he is of a higher status.
